Building a new Sequoia

Build new CentOS box (or maybe you want a different UNIX? Doesn't really matter?)

• Start by making a “General use WPICS machine.”
• Change FSTAB to mount csmail:/var/mail as /var/spool/cs-mail instead of mounting it normally.
• Don't forget the sendmail SMART_HOST setup.

Various people want(ed?)

• Emacs, GnuPlot, SHARUTILS, fortune
• detex (detex is on RPMforge)
• tetex
• alpine
• openldap-clients (setup for WPI OpenLDAP)
• mpack (mime pack-unpack program–rpmforge)
• xfig
• transfig
• latex2html (contains “texexpand”)
• w3m
• gv (i.e., ghostview)

These packages aren't available (?) from CentOS package repos, and will need to be built and installed by hand:

• nmh (MH Mail handler, for Elke – needs libtermcap-devel, flex, et.al)
• vacation (CentOS has no vacation program?!)
• ical (for DCB, for Gennert and CCaron)

PROCMAIL and the VACATION program must work on sequoia. See sendmail and look for “PROCMAIL ”.

procmail delivery will also fail if the recipients SHELL is not in /etc/shells … so since sequoia uses the /shell system from password propigation, procmail delivery will fail unless we put the /shell/[…] shells into the list in /etc/shells.

Don't forget to add PRINTERS

Don't forget to add MAIL ALIASES from the old revision of the machine.
