csshare.cs.wpi.edu (real-name samba.cs.wpi.edu)
csshare.cs.wpi.edu is a Virtual Machine running on one of the department's VM Servers.
It is part of the CS Dept Samba Domain and only serves files–it is not a login server. The ability to fetch files from csshare.cs.wpi.edu is via authentication on cs.wpi.edu, which is the CS Dept Login Server. If a user has not logged into the CS Domain, the user will not be able to map shares from this machine.
Likewise–if the samba server on cs.wpi.edu is down, users will not be able to authenticate there, and there will be no way for them to convince csshare to give them the files they are looking for.
The files served by csshare are actually stored on owl.cs.wpi.edu.
Thus: owl.cs.wpi.edu and cs.wpi.edu both need to be functioning correctly in order for csshare to work.
