Don't Surprise the Users
IN San Diego in 2008 I went to the LISA (Large Installation System Administration) conference. It was the first time WPICS had ever sent me to a real conference of any kind. I was only able to take a small number of classes but it was fantastic to be surrounded by and immersed ina a group of people in my line of work for the first time.
Many subjects were taught there and many lessons dealt out, but the simplest and purest lesson was one sentence:
Don't surprise the users.
If you can do this while pursuing all your other objectives in some effective manner, your job is lilkely to be safe.
Keep this in mind.
