tank1.cs.wpi.edu
tank1.cs.wpi.edu (aka csshare, web.cs)
tank1 no longer exists. Its function has been replaced by owl.cs.wpi.edu and some VMs:
- csshare.cs.wpi.edu
- web.cs.wpi.edu
this section should be archived and kept for posterity, maybe in an “old machines” area?
tank1 was a Dell PowerEdge 1950 and was used as a temporary replacement for csopt1. Once csopt1's services and files are moved to tank1, csopt1 will be taken down and rebuilt, with new disks added and a fresh operating system.
tank1.cs.wpi.edu runs an up-to-date, stable version of FreeBSD, which is not a Linux OS.
tank1 has TWO disks in a raid-1, so that if one disk dies, the machine should be able to continue functioning. What is the disk swapout procedure?
tank1.cs.wpi.edu services
Tank1 provides many services:
- user home directories via NFS (to general-access UNIX machines) and via SAMBA (to WPI CS-Domain PCs).
- a /usr/local directory, exported via NFS to gen access CS Unix machines, for storage of specially-installed programs.
- tank1 contains the files for http://web.cs.wpi.edu and ftp://ftp.cs.wpi.edu.
- tank1 runs the webserver for web.cs.wpi.edu, distriblets.wpi.edu, and a number of other sites.
